Most Popular Cocktails – Part 3

In the third episode of this series, we will be talking about two amazing cocktails that have claimed their fame through their immense popularity!

Classic Daiquiri Cocktail

Classic Daiquiri Cocktail

The first one in this segment is Daiquiri. Yes, Daiquiri is rather famous among the pretty women, isn’t it? The name has a Caribbean (Taino) origin linguistically but it is actually named after a beach near Santiago in Cuba. The main ingredients of a classic Daiquiri are rum, some typical citrus juice (commonly lime juice) and sugar or any other sweetner. It is one of most refreshing drinks in its group but there seems to have had a medicinal reason behind the invention as per the Cuban history suggests!

Obviously there are variants of Daiquiri but here is a simple, classic Daiquiri recipe for you.

1 1/2 ounces light rum
3/4 ounce lemon juice
1/4 ounce simple syrup

PREPARATION:  Mix together the rum, lemon juice and sugar syrup into a cocktail shaker with crushed ice. Shake well and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. (Recipe Courtesy: http://goo.gl/o1kchw)

Simple Bacon Bloody Mary
P.C.: http://goo.gl/cQvlbL

The next is one of the world’s most complex cocktails… Yup, you guessed it right! It is Bloody Mary. Bloody Mary’s existence dates back to the early years of the twentieth century, into the times when personalities like Earnest Hemingway and his contemporaries would visit the bars at length! Bloody Mary is revered to be a ‘Hair of the Dog‘ drink and has numerous variations. It is a popular cocktail that contains Vodka as the main alcohol base and tomato juice. These are the two constant ingredients and the rest that is added is largely variable, from beef consommé to celery, black pepper, lemon juice and what not!

Here is a close adaptation of a Jamie Oliver recipe for a spicy Bloody Mary version. You’ll need: 16 ounces (1/2 quart) of tomato juice, 2 oz vodka, 2 tbsp barbeque sauce, pinch of paprika, salt, juice and pulps of 1/4 lemon, long chopped stalk of celery and a piece of thick-cut cooked bacon. Then, in a cocktail shaker, mix together the tomato juice, vodka, paprika, salt and lemon. Mix well. Fill a bucket or rocks glass, or a stemless snifter with ice. Now pour the mixture and garnish it with a cut of celery and a piece of thick cut, cooked bacon! (You can find the original recipe in: http://goo.gl/nonlzB )

Most Popular Cocktails – Part 1

A cocktail is a generic term used to mean an alcoholic mixed drink. It may consist of a number of different ingredients but one of them must be alcohol. Cocktails are a huge hit with party animals and also among soft-core drinkers who don’t mind a sip or two at times! Since it contains a low alcohol content, it is more agreeable to people who do not have much fervor for alcohol. However, on the contrary, some hard-core drinkers at times prefer cocktails too!

Pubs in Delhi

The union territory and the Indian capital have a total population of 11 million. Do I need to describe the boozing habits of such an urban metropolitan composition? With rise in population, the numbers of pubs in Delhi are increasing. Restaurant owners are utilizing this opportunity to bring out pubs and bars across the city.
So if you have plans to visit Delhi in your next trip, believe me it turns difficult to decide where to hop on. In fact, core Delhites need to check in the best place online before they crash nowadays.

To keep it simple and crisp, Bookyourtable suggests the top three pubs in Delhi. They have grounds for which you should step in these places this Valentine’s Day.

  1. Shiro

If you want your ‘Hips don’t Lie”, then Shiro is the place.   Shiro was named Best Bar for Dancing in the 2014 Times Food and Nightlife Awards. Does that bring Shiro to your wish list when in Delhi next time? This social circuit of Delhi crashes in this vibrant bar mostly in weekends.

Interiors of Shiro P.C. : http://goo.gl/6d7Hgj

Weekends in Shiro implies a lump entry fee after a long queue but believe me, it’s worth it.  The dim lit is enhanced due to the incarnation of Lord Buddha’s statues. This gives a classy effect to the ambiance. Due to huge crowds coming, their bar tenders remain very busy. Feel free to yell for your drink. The signatures at Shiro are Mahanti Chicken, Demerara Fig Mojito and the entry of the DJ in a dramatic and motion by emerging from a minor ball.

2. The Blue Bar
This Taj pub is a true hit and craze among Delhizens. Its unique décor truly gives an international feel. It’s modern and contemporary. While the outside set up is dominated by Bonsai, the inside of the pub is a dazzling bar with Bohemian art.

Textures and colors create mood to the public. The ceiling is transparent. At night, this makes millions of fiber-optic threads allow light to pass through the stone and onto your drinks. The beauty of the Blue Bar does not end in its décor. The Blue bar closes off soon. Yet they receive a chunk of Delhi socialites, investment bankers and industrialized kids. One signature drink, that’s a recommendation if you turn up in this hip hop joint is Mata ari. The drink is a mix of gin with plum shake and fruits. It’s an awesome cocktail.
3. Keya
A visit to the exotic pub of New Delhi is necessary especially for first timers. If you go in here, you got to try some of the drinks.

Tom Yam Martini is also a try.

Park Plaza hotel Kolkata

Park Plaza hotel Kolkata

Nirvana, the lounge, is dedicated to finding the sense of relaxation and calm even when you’d like some cool stuff around to beguile you! The huge white statue of Buddha that sits facing the lounge evokes a deep sense of trance. Yet you will enjoy your mental elasticity quite a lot here. The bar is nicely packed and the food available is super tasty. But only pub food is available, so a post drink light lunch or dinner is suggested. The ambiance is classy and soothing.

The Park Plaza has this electronica called Klink… It looks like some world set inside an alien habitation or a pub in some fantastically advanced civilization! It offers, obviously, one of the most unique lounge experiences because of the mystic atmosphere it creates. It is open only from late afternoon till a little before midnight. The black, blue, deep teal and white along with some golden is simply mesmeric. It is also a poolside party room!!

Bartini’s is a lounge-cum-restaurant. It is beautifully designed with lines of mellow lights along the walls and candles atop the tables, encouraging romanticism. Pub food is available and the bar and the kitchen have the same stock as the other two… Only the decor and ambiance marks the difference. They are new on the block, so why don’t you be one of their first guests?
